Case Study

Case Study African Alliance: Gaining clarity and control through comprehensive IT asset and licensing auditing.

Deploying Block 64 across on-premises and cloud infrastructure to deliver complete visibility, restore licensing compliance and build a clear modernisation roadmap for a pan-African banking group.

Client Overview

African Alliance is an investment banking group operating across Africa. The group consists of between 75 and 100 companies, employing more than 3,000 people across the continent. Its technology environment spans on‑premises infrastructure and cloud services, supporting a large and distributed user base.

The Challenge

Following the appointment of a new Head of IT, African Alliance required a clear and accurate understanding of its existing IT estate. Limited documentation was available, and many systems had not been audited for several years.

The objective was to obtain reliable data to determine whether hardware, software and licensing were correctly aligned to business needs, enabling informed decisions around compliance, right‑sizing and future strategy.

The Solution

VTG proposed and implemented Block 64, an agentless IT asset management and auditing platform. Block 64 was deployed across African Alliance’s environment to scan on‑premises and cloud infrastructure, gathering detailed information on devices, servers, software versions and licence utilisation.

The platform ran for three weeks, after which VTG analysed the data and presented clear, easy‑to‑understand reports. These insights included server age, utilisation, licensing compliance and Azure migration costing, supporting future infrastructure planning.

Managed Support & Partnership

Throughout the engagement, VTG worked closely with African Alliance’s internal IT team, operating as an extension of the function rather than a traditional supplier. This enabled rapid access to expertise and ensured that findings and recommendations were aligned to business objectives.

Client Feedback

“What I like about working with the team at VTG is the immediacy and responsiveness they give me. I can pick up the phone and talk to them when I need them.”

“Microsoft is sometimes vague about server licensing, so VTG’s detailed analysis was highly useful.”

The Results

African Alliance gained full visibility into its IT environment, including the number and age of servers and laptops, software and server licensing status, cloud services in use and warranty information for end‑user devices.

The engagement revealed that the organisation was over‑licensed and operating hardware beyond its expected lifecycle. Armed with accurate data, African Alliance adjusted licensing, improved compliance and established a clear roadmap for future modernisation.
